Pekan lalu saya berhutang satu hal. Tentang penjelasan persis mengapa saya sangat menyukai pola pikir Casey Neistat. Saya selalu sependapat dengannya. Hari ini, saya sajikan salah satu fragmennya. Dibawakan dengan sangat luarbiasa atas kerja sama Jacksgap dan Casey (kurang bikin merinding apa, coba?!).
Dan harus dicatat, saya melakukan transkrip di bawah secara sendiri. Saking berdedikasinya! Semoga Anda juga bisa merasakan spirit utamanya. Semoga ikut merinding juga!

You know, I don’t even like filmmaking, I don’t like the technicalities of it, I don’t like the formalities of it.
I like to tell stories. And my favorite medium for telling stories is movies. So, when it comes to kinda of the core motivation of the reason why I got into it is because I feel when I, I make a movie or I tell a story and communicating something that important to me in a way that it can reach, you know, more people, in a way that can reach people beyond just myself.
I come from like a pretty simple background. My dad was like a restaurant supply salesman, and um you know I left home you know when I was really young. So us pretty, as pretty poor you know, I had my son when I was 16, and I washed dishes for a living. That was until I was you know, 18 years old, that I decided I want to make movies.
Now I was washing dishes to pay for my computer that I can edit on. I was, I was an assistant, as a cleanup, little, kitty little boxes for my boss. So I get a pay check, take that money, buy camera and make movies. I always need a living so I can make movies. I never made movies to trying to make living.
And I think that’s a big mistake that a lot of newcomers do as they focused on ‘how can my passion pay me’. And I think that’s terrible place to start. If the reason why you doing anything creative is to make a living then you doing it wrong. You get into it because it’s a true passion it’s something you really believe in. Um, where all get into it at all.
